Dr. Rawa Soud Al-Jaralla

ABSTRACT: Strategies for solid waste management in the State of Kuwait – A life cycle impacts approach
BIOGRAPHY:
Rawa Al-Jaralla is an assistant professor of Civil Engineering at Kuwait University, specializing in environmental engineering. Her area of specialty is applicable to both the diagnosis of and solutions for "environmental problems". She has earned her Ph.D. from University of British Columbia (2001), in which she was focusing on Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) and contaminated sites rehabitation. Al-Jaralla's integrated approach is unique, as it synthesizes the fields of landfilling, biodegradation and leachate treatment. In short, this practical integration addresses the environmental concerns associated with solid waste long-term environmental impacts. In her master she worked on treatment of heavy metal contaminated water using adsorption mechanisms. She has received her Master (M.Sc.) and B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from Oregon State University (1997) and Kuwait University (1994) respectively.
Dr. Al-Jaralla has been working in the field of environmental engineering since 1994 as she joined the Kuwait Municipality environmental team during their extensive research program on ISWM. Using 17 years of experience and her academic and professional background in adult learning and instructional design, Al-Jaralla teaches at Kuwait University in the department of Civil engineering. She have used this knowledge to help Office of Consultation and Career (OCCD) clients - design professionals, decision makers and the general public- through designing and lecturing several professional training courses and private consultations .
Rawa Al-Jaralla is a Board member of Kuwait Environmental Protection Authority (KEPA).
